Album: Official Opening Yantai Chefoo Exhibit

The Yantai Chefoo School museum exhibit, and its official opening in March, 2018 was the culmination of much planning and coordination by the Yantai City Museum, the Yantai Foreign Affairs Office (FAO), and the Chefoo Schools Association. Li Xin, a businessman from Shanghai and a Yantai native, was centrally involved in promoting the development of the museum exhibit as an important historical reminder of the international school that functioned in his hometown from 1881 to 1943. A number of overseas visitors to this event had attended the school (at this location or subsequent relocations) or had direct family connections with former students. Others were here with a keen interest in the historical significance of Chefoo School and the early history of Westerners in Yantai.

The formal opening was conducted in both English and Chinese with the following key participants:

  • Mr. Yin Guowen, Director of the Yantai Foreign Affairs and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office
  • Mr. Ian Grant, Honourary President of the Chefoo Schools Association and Editor of the Chefoo School Magazine (from Ontario, Canada)
  • Mr. Liu Jianfeng, Chairman of the Yantai Museum Board of Directors.
  • Mr. Gao Aidong, Curator of the Yantai Museum (presented the commemorative certificate)
  • Mrs. Marjorie Kreeble, Honourary President of the Chefoo School Association (from Melbourne, Australia)

Here are a few photos of guests interacting with the Chefoo Schools Exhibit immediately following the opening ceremony. (Later I did photograph all of the displays and have plans to upload a complete record of the museum exhibit.)
