Album: The Forks Historical Park in Winnipeg

Photos here start with the entrance gate to the river-side park known as The Forks National Historic Park. Displays remind visitors of the significance of this important location, including some history of our First Nations people, the founding of the Province of Manitoba, and the opening-up of Western Canada to immigration (mostly people of European descent).

Two of the photos show the location of where the Red and Assiniboine rivers join together, a kind of river cross-roads so important to the river travel of early people.

Today, The Forks are a popular place for families to enjoy a relaxing afternoon. Nearby is the new Canadian Museum of Human Rights (with its Tower of Hope visible in the distance in one of he photos). Across the river is a great Winnipeg landmark, the Saint Boniface Cathedral, which has been so important in defining the local French community over the decades.

At The Forks Market, we stopped to eat and I bought some jewelry for my wife as a reminder of this return to the site of our honeymoon so many years ago.
