China’s Detian Waterfall – A Hidden Gem

My visit to Detian Waterfall on the border between China’s Guangxi Province and Vietnam was a delightful surprise. Few people in China know about this beauty spot… and even fewer elsewhere.

546IMGP0803csh_resize300bChinese tourism likes to talk of the largest transnational waterfall in the world next to Niagara, and they may be right. But size is not everything. When perceived in terms of its beauty, it may well overtake Niagara.

Perhaps I was lucky to visit this site at the time of year that I did (September). There was lots of water cascading over the different levels. And, unlike other water sources in China, this water was sparkling clean.

541IMGP0791cshrshp_resize300bTourism to this location was still in its infancy (2009). The roads into the area are only now being developed and local accommodation is still very minimal.

For me, Detian Falls is clearly one of the most beautiful spots in China. More people need to learn of it, and enjoy its beauty.

It is a very artistic site, and is filled with ethnic customs. Maybe a few people know the Detian Waterfall, but now more and more people visit it, especially the couples in their honeymoon. Because of the Tv play Huaqiangu。take a Tv show there. Although it may be smaller than other waterfalls, it has its own beauty.
