Nanjing (Jiangsu) — Hexi New Town Christian Church

As an English speaker, interested in the history of Christianity in China, I stumbled upon reports about a great new Christian church being developed in Nanjing. Unfortunately, I could find very little information about this development online. The reports I did find suggested the church would be one of the largest in China, possibly seating as many as 5000 people.

A first view of the church as one arrives from the subway station.

In late March 2012 I was in Nanjing and I chose to do a search for the building site. I was lucky not only to find the location but to be allowed to actually walk within the construction area.

The front entrance, still under construction.

The location of the church is close to the Olympic Station at the west end of Nanjing subway Line 1. It is located in a major new commercial hub being developed on west side of Nanjing, known as Hexi New Town. It is a beautiful new building and its steeple can be seen from a great surrounding distance.

View from the major thoroughfare, Mengdu Dajie.

I am pleased to provide interested readers with an online album of photos of the new church as I viewed it under construction in late March, 2012, together with just a few shots of the neighbouring area under development.
